Waiting On Wednesday: The Sweetest Dark

Waiting On Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine, and is a way to show off the books you can't wait to be released.  This week I choose...

Author - Shana Abé
Genre - Young Adult Historical /Paranormal
Publisher - Random House
Release Date - April 9, 2013

Lora Jones has always known that she's different.  On the outside, she appears to be an ordinary sixteen-year-old girl.  Yet Lora's been keeping a heartful of secrets: She hears songs that no one else can hear, dreams vividly of smoke and flight, and lives with a mysterious voice inside her that insists she's far more than what she seems.

England, 1915.  Raised in an orphanage in a rough corner of London, Lora quickly learns to hide her unique abilities and avoid attention.  Then, much to her surprise, she is selected as the new charity student at Iverson, an elite boarding school on England's southern coast.  Iverson's eerie, gothic castle is like nothing Lora has ever seen.  And the two boys she meets there will open her eyes and forever change her destiny.
Jesse is the school's groundskeeper -- a beautiful boy who recognizes Lora for who and what she truly is.  Armand is a darkly handsome and arrogant aristocrat who harbors a few closely guarded secrets of his own.
Both hold the answers to her past.  One is the key to her future.  And both will aim to win her heart.  As danger descends upon Iverson, Lora must harness the powers she's only  just begun to understand, or else lose everything she dearly loves.

Shana Abé is my favorite romance author.  The Sweetest Dark is her debut YA novel based on her popular Drákon dragon series.  I'm really looking forward to reading this new teen adventure set in post-Victorian London!

  1. Hmm, sounds interesting. My only concern is yet another love triangle. I just don't like them, LOL. Still, it has a beautiful cover. Might have to check it out.

    1. Nat - Yeah, I'm not a big fan of love triangles either. However, I'm excited about this book because I ♥ Shana Abé. Her books are my favorite reads.

    2. I shall definitely go check out her website right now!

    3. Which book would you recommend I start with? I just looked, but she doesn't have a "connected books" list that I can look at.

    4. Her Drákon dragon series starts with The Smoke Thief. Next is The Dream Thief, Queen of Dragons, Treasure Keeper, and the last book is Time Weaver.

    5. Thank you! I will see about getting book one when we go to B&N this weekend =)

    6. You're welcome! If you don't buy the book, at the very least check out the name of the hero in The Smoke Thief. Pretty cool last name, don't ya think? ;)

    7. Heheh, yes, very cool last name ;)
